Immigrats
Hi、this is Sora.
Today,I want to tell about immigrants in Japan.
Now Japan face a problem of immigrants people.
In 2012,the number of foreign residents in Japan is 2 million.
This is big number in Japan and 2% of population in Japan.
However, everybody know Japan is very exclusive country in the world, especially about immigrants people.
Why? There are 3 reasons.
First is a factor of geographical.
Japan is a country encircled by the sea and there are no country by land.
This situation made a strong realationship among Japnese long times ago.
It is sometimes good for example mutal help but, sometimes no good.
People can not adopt to this circumstances of Japan.
Second is the problem of working.
Maybe, many people have same thinking about cominng immigrants.
Many Japanese think if many immigrants come to and settle down in Japan, we may lost our jobs.
Is it true?? I think it is not true!!
Now young Japanese people face a job shortage.
One people took over 100 employment tests and can not pass all.
However, I think this job shortage is only regular employee.
I work in resutrant near my home.
My shoopkeeper always say "I want to employ more and more worker."
Now many company of the service industry are suffering from short of hands.
This is same situation in traditional industry and farming.
Third is nagative images to immigrats.
Actually, 50% of foreign residents in Japan are from China and Korean.
Do you think Japan and this two countries have good relationship??
Maybe, most poeple say "No".
Recently, Japanese goverment is competing with China or Korean about territory.
We watch an anti-Japan demonstaration in China or Korean on TV.
Of course, this is one case of China or Korean and Everybody do not think too.
However, Japanese have one images "Chinese and Korean do not like Japanese."
Thus, Japanese think it about immigrants from China or Korea.
But, now Japanese gorverment try to change this situation.
Few years ago, many nurse from South and East Asian work in Japan because of covering for short of hands.
Moreover, from 2012 Japanese goverment allow foreign residents make certificate of residence and they can join a national health insurance.
There are two good points to make this policy.
One is for increasing tax revenues and second is for getting more worker to keep a national health insurance.
How do you think this blog? Please publish your idea or comment!!
Hi Sora, I think you bring up a lot of important points here. I really do wonder if things will change in the future (maybe not near future, but far future) and that Japan will become a more welcoming country to immigrants. Another issue with immigrants is that of language, learning Japanese.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really interesting topic, that's for sure. In America, 98.4% of Americans have their ancestry somewhere other than the U.S., as Native Americans only make up 1.6% of the population. Although illegal immigrants are really disliked in America (since they don't pay taxes and work for cheap), most people don't really think much about immigrants- at least not somewhere like Michigan. People worry more about jobs getting outsourced (外注) rather than people legally moving in from other countries and getting or "taking" our jobs.
ReplyDeleteBut America and Canada and countries like that are really a different case. Countries that are made of a homogeneous people tend to be much more afraid of accepting immigrants. Studies do show, however, that there are many benefits of immigration for a country's economy, rather than bad effects. But of course, Japan is already a very crowded place with limited resources...hmm
